The Octuplet Mom Story aired on NBC last night. It was about a lady who was married and tried to get pregnant, unsuccessfully for many years. She was an only child who always wanted a big family growing up. She and her hubby divorced, but she still wanted a big family. With no potential hubby in sight, she asked a good friend to be a sperm donor. She had 5 singletons and a set of twins via IVF. At this point in her life no one made a big deal about her life choices.
She decided she wanted one more baby and went in for her final IVF which resulted in 8 babies. Now everyone wants a say in her situation because she is currently un-employed and has 14 kids. In my opinion NBC was totally one-sided about her story (of course). They made it sound like she should have aborted some of the octuplets because by having so many at one time, they have a greater risk of health problems. They didn't bother to focus on her past infertility situation and the effect it can have on you, physically and mentally. They didn't bother to mention that plenty of people in "normal" situations are unemployed and on welfare right now. They didn't bother to applaud her for not abandoning the children because of her financial situation or because things didn't pan out like she thought it would. The didn't bother to applaud her for not aborting any of the octuplets and for being willing to except physically/mentally challenged kids. They didn't make it clear that she didn't go in to have 8 babies; she only wanted one more. They made it sound like she was a sick phychopath that was wanting attention.
I am not in favor of the way this lady went about having a family. I don't think she put herself in the wisest position. All I am saying is:
A) The children looked healthy and well taken care of
B) They were in a home owned by her mom that she pays rent for. It's not like they are living in government housing or something. NBC made it sound like her house was too small and the children were suffering.
C) She was not asking for a hand-out or money.
D) Jon and Kate Plus had 6 babies at one time, and lived in a house too small for them. And yet because they are married, he has a job and she has a degree they get their own show.
AGAIN, I am not supporting this lady, it just annoys me that people all of a sudden want to make her out to be crazy. In my opinion, there are alot of crazier things happening in the world today. What about the teenagers who get pregnant and abort their kids? What about the parents who are neglectful and let their kids end up in the foster system?
I guess I am trying to say, "Can't NBC find bigger fish to fry?"
